Binaural recordings is a method of recording which allows you to perceive sound as you'd actually hear it, as if you're really there. A special mic set is used and placed in a dummy head's ears to simulate how a person actually hears sound. In order for it to work properly, the audio must be listened to via headset.
I fell in love with binaural recordings when I went to MGM studios when I was twelve years old. There was this binaural booth where you go in and you put the headset on and listen. It was an audio of Mickey Mouse giving you a haircut and it was amazing! It was such a dynamic experience that I still remember it vividly to this day. There's a similar audio out there today you can still listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUDTlvagjJA
I think binaural recordings have the possibility of adding another great dimension to the meta. With virtual being mostly concentrated in the visual (ie 3d graphic), it's good to see binaural technology emerging for the audio.
We will continue to work on the quality of the binaural recordings and play around more with its possibilities. All feed back is appreciated!
