About

Welcome to the home of MetaTalks Podcast. This weekly podcast is a continuing open conversation and dialogue between two friends, @eljeppy and @alachia. Frequent conversations will pertain to the online world we call the "meta' and its cultural emergings. You will notice also that our shows are recorded in binaural format so it is highly recommend you listen using headphones rather than speakers. It's an experiment we are trying out to better enhance the "space" and experience of listening to podcasts online. Read more about who we are »

Think Tank

Tuesday, April 17, 2007

Meta Talk this week is going to be a little more engaging now that we've done the whole "brief get to know you thing"...

The topic is a Think Tank: The Future of MMORPGs.

We'll split off into small groups and each group will be given a topic regarding an aspect of an MMORPG to develop. The idea is to be creative as well as help answer questions as to how far we can push the envelope.

At the end of the meeting, we'll have each of the group present their vision so we can share and comment.

I'm assuming at least 15 might show so I've prepared 3 aspects to explore but have a few more just incase.

1. Classes
2. Leveling Experience/Goal for end game?
3. Economy + Market System
4. Interactions (people to people)
5. Skills/Crafting/Non-Combat goals
6. Interactions (people to world)

For example. Currently, the MMORPG we all play (WoW), has a very linear structure in terms of goals and leveling experince. Are there ways to enhance the experince in an MMO that does not involve combat? Are there ways to have interactions with other players that go beyond standard party grouping and simple trade systems?

Can we push the box of our meta existence and see the MMORPG world extending into our real world? What about devices that can record your RL physical activity and translate that into achievement in the MMORPG? Is it possible to start blurring the line or do we need boundaries?

The micro goal of the think tank is to develop an MMORPG from the imagination of our minds. The macro goal is to perhaps explore the nature of how we play and how we want to play....or should I say meta-live...

hope to see you guys there. :D

Arg. Sorry Gnomcot couldn't make it to the Meta-meeting last night. Runs went past schedule, and I couldn't bring myself to leave the group hanging...
